X'S PLOT

In the beginning, there was only the Heavens and the Earth...

Hm, no wait...let's try that again.

The X games starts us off with Dr. Cain digging around in the dirt, looking for some kind of prehistoric plant life. Quite by accident, he stumbles upon the remains of the famous Dr. Light's lab, inside which lies a dormant capsule of some sort. Closer inspection reveals a warning from Dr. Light attatched to the capsule. The warning states that the capsule contains 'X', the first of a new generation of robots that can think, feel, and make their own descisions. While these features sound all fine and dandy on a robot, their presence posesses a great danger as well: if X were to go crackers one day and start killing humans, almost nothing could stop him.

With the help of X and Dr. Light's notes, Dr. Cain creates his first successful 'reploid'. Dr. Cain made a few modifications on the reploid since he could not understand all of Dr. Light's notes. (Oh boy, is HE gonna regret that later...)

Time passes, and the human and reploid species co exist peacefully, if not a bit warily. That's when a handful of reploids go wonkers and injure a few humans. Cases of this disturbing 'Maverick' behaviour seem to be on the rise, yet reploids continue to run off the assembly line like nobody's business.

When the number of 'Maverick reploid' cases finally gets unacceptable, a group of 'Maverick Hunters' is set up to eliminate any reploid that shows any hint of rebellion against the humans. In charge of the Hunters is Dr. Cain's finest reploid, Sigma. Sigma and his Hunters do a smashing job of bringing down the Maverick population, and the stifiling shadow of worry that hung heavily over the humans begins to receed a bit.

So all is well, right? BZZZT! Wrong! While all the ruckus with the Hunters and Mavericks was going on, X had become quite an unhappy little reploid. He's not quite sure what he was given life for, and he has become quite restless as a result.

But that's soon mended. Sigma goes Maverick and takes most of the Hunters with him. He announces that the humans are inferior and limiting the growth of the reploid race. Ergo, every human should be killed. (No, Sigma is not very nice.)

At last, X has found his calling. He insists on joining up with Zero, the new leader of the Hunters, when he goes after Sigma. Huzzah!!

The original X game is probably still my favourite out of the entire series of Mega Man games. You were introduced to a stirring plot, good graphics, neat characters, and great music. There seemed to be a lot of effort put into it which shone through when the final product was released. For example, the way the faces of the characters would appear in the dialouge boxes.
